Almost 6 years of WILDSTAR Animation & Rigging

So I've been working on WildStar for just about 6 years now.  Here is a small sampling of some of the animation and rigging I've had the good fortune to work on.

WILDSTAR Rigging Reel 2014

Also put together a sort of "breakdown" of the special projects I've taken on within the development of WILDSTAR over the years.  (The sort of "outside normal rigging and animation of characters/props" stuff that's hard to put in a reel.)

Adventures Epic Drop - with the Caretaker

New Wildstar Flick announcing Adventures.  The Caretaker is probably my favorite character in the game, so doing a video from his perspective was irresistible...  Here's the landing page.  My main contribution was the 2D animation that appears on his screen.

Classes "Ultra Drop"

Weee, finally got to dive back into character animation on this one.  And what a character.  I feel as though I haven't seen the last of Ish'mael the Bloodied...  Here's the landing page.

Chua/Mordesh Reveal

Latest Wildstar Flick, Chua/Mordesh...  Here's the landing page.

Paths Epic Drop

Well, I'm a couple videos behind... Let's get caught up here.  Couple months ago my team put out a double feature to highlight Paths in Wildstar.  A new marketing cinematic, which we're now calling Wildstar Flicks, and a DevSpeak.  Worked on both.  Mostly the DevSpeak, but also storyboards, animatic, setup, and management type stuff for the Flick.  Oh, and I animated a flower...  Here's the landing page.

DevSpeak Gameplay Videos

Not the usual animation work, but I recently made two gameplay videos for Wildstar.  Special thanks to Max and Marc Matzenbacher, Chris Hanel, Stephan Frost, and Greg Meader for significant contributions.  Hiring up a team to help create more DevSpeaks at a fast pace.  Lots of gameplay features to discuss in Wildstar!  Here's the landing page.

Meet the Exiles

Number three baby, Meet the Exiles.  Got some incredible new animators on board to work on this.  Main narrator was animated by Kishore Vijay, and all the other characters by Jarrod Showers.  I did the 2D animation, and some other things.  Super fun, and thanks to all the folks at Carbine who helped out!

Meet the Dominion

Well. Been a little since I posted anything here, so here we go. Let's start with the Meet the Dominion. Our second in-house marketing cinematic. Released third, though actually created second.  An exciting project to put together, from working with professional voice talent at Igloo Studios in Burbank, to bringing to life a character I completely love, to wrestling our game engine to the ground in order to render the thing.  Thanks as always to everyone else who helped on this!

Protostar Housing Video

Just wrapped up production on our first in-house marketing cinematic.  So many things I wish I could keep polishing, but when the deadline comes, the deadline comes.  Thanks to everyone who helped on this!  Here is the full press release.

Another post by our community team included Metal Maw's combat idle and death animations.  Our lore team also wrote up some great background information on him.

Wildstar: Metal Maw animations

I did a couple animations recently for Wildstar's fan-designed monster, Metal Maw.  Carbine wants to keep the fans updated on this creature's progress through development, so they've posted periodic blog posts showing work on him from each department on the art team.  The animation process was posted in two chunks, one for the Walk Cycle, and one for the Birth/Introduction Sequence.  We've also written a little about the process and workflow up there, so there are some in progress versions as well.  Here are the final versions of each.

Wildstar finally announced!

We have finally announced our big, secret MMO at Carbine Studios. It's called Wildstar, and it is an epic sci-fi, western, fantasy adventure! It has been pretty exciting to see footage of this thing finally out in the public eye, and even more exciting to see the positive reactions. Take a look for yourself.  I will be posting more art from Wildstar as we move forward... ;-)
